RECHARGE UK is the UK’s largest Electric Vehicle forum, representing around 100 members across the EV charging space, including chargepoint operators, manufacturers, green finance and legal partners and other organisation who look to improve the EV space with innovative solutions.
Our purpose is to recharge the EV sector with new ideas to solve infrastructure deployment issues and improve the consumer experience.
Working Groups:
In addition to our regular policy and regulatory engagement across the EV sector, we have three working groups looking at the areas our members have called for more focus on, and which have regular interaction with Government.
- On Street Home Connected Charging. Designed to promote this growing sub sector and highlight unique policy concerns and solutions to OZEV.
- Near Home Charging. A group dedicated to breaking down barriers to EV ownership, highlighting the range and cost effectiveness of all charging solutions near your home.
- Heavy Goods Vehicles. This working group is focused on developing consensus among the membership on key asks for the HGV ZEV mandate and develop policy asks on fleet charging.
- Bidirectional Charging. This working group is focused on developing key asks and building momentum behind bidirectional charging policy in the UK which to date is underdeveloped.
- Cyber Security. This working group was set up to provide leadership on cyber security in the EV charging sector. The first group of any trade association to focus on cyber security in EV charging. It’s report (launching October 2025) will provide guidance and best practice to improve the cyber resilience of UK charging infrastructure.
- Interoperability. Dedicated to creating a interoperable, accessible charging network that provides a seamless user experience.
EV APPG:
RECHARGE UK are also the secretariat for the Electric Vehicle All Party Parliamentary Group Chaired by Perran Moon MP.
The APPG meets several times a year to enable parliament to hear directly from the EV sector and encourage open communication between Parliamentarians and their experiences of EV charging and the sector, so we can highlight where their focus should be to enable the sector to grow as fast as possible and empower people to purchase an EV.

Member & External Engagement
- RECHARGE UK hosts a number of topic-specific ad-hoc meetings as required, in addition to seminars.
- We have regular engagement with both OZEV ,DfT and DESNZ across a number of policy areas, including the ZEV Mandate, LEVI, Smart Charging, Cyber Security, grid connectivity policy and regulatory barriers to deployment and fleet charging.
- In 2025 we will be publishing a series of interconnected reports on cyber security, interoperability and fleet electrification. Sign up to the cyber security report launch.
- In 2025 RECHARGE UK launched in coalition with members EVA England and Paythru the Payment Charter designed to simplify payment and accelerate EV adoption.
- In 2024 we took part in a joint campaign to make E-Van adoption achievable, through the Van Plan. It’s impact was quick, seeing on Christmas 2024 changes announced regarding licencing of E-Vans making ownership simpler and cheaper.
- RECHARGE UK launched its skills report in 2024 which helped set the agenda for Labour’s skills policies, achieving endorsement from the then shadow Education Minister Matt Western MP. The reports reccomended for the creation of Centres of Excellence for Net Zero Skills to be established. Labour formed Technical Excellence Colleges prioritising engineering skills essential for the net zero transition.
- Parliamentary Launch Event 19th July 2023 – The EV Forum hosted its first official external event as the rebranded RECHARGE UK. Launching our report “Charging Forward to 2030”.

Additional Information
- One major EV Forum output was the launch (March 2020) of the UK’s first consumer code for domestic charge point installers – details here.
- The REA’s 2019 report on public charging interoperability can be found here. This report was instrumental in setting up the consumer experience at public chargepoints consultation and resulted in the public chargepoints regulations 2023.
REA & UK Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment Association (UKEVSE)
On the 30th March 2020 it was announced that UKEVSE was merging with the REA. This will produce a more cohesive voice for the UK’s electric vehicle charging infrastructure sector. Details of the announcement can be found here.
A number of resources and reports produced by Cenex and the UKEVSE are also now available on the REA website, including the Chargepoint Procurement Guidance report (2018) and A guide on electric vehicle charging and DNO engagement for local authorities, jointly produced with Western Power Distribution (2018).
