Ahead of the waste sector joining the UK Emissions Trading Scheme in 2028, the government is running a voluntary Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) period from 1 January 2026. This period will be used to inform the final ETS policy design. Full details can be found here.
The REA is inviting you to an Energy from Waste Members’ Forum focused on the MRV-only period and ETS. 2:00-3:00pm on Tuesday 23rd September 2025.
The first half of this session will be a members-only industry presentation and open discussion. DESNZ will join us during the second half for an update on the MRV-only period and Q&A.
The REA is working with DESNZ on commonly asked question. Even if you are working directly with DESNZ, we encourage you to please email us your questions, concerns, or opinions on the MRV-only period so we can build an industry-wide picture.
